April International acquires A+ Insurance

On March 31, 2022, it was announced that April International acquired A Plus International Healthcare’s business.

Since 2008, A+ has offered best-in-class medical health plans around the world with a network of over 10,000 doctors, hospitals and clinics in more than 150 countries. They offer world-class medical assistance – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days. 

April International Care 

For over 30 years, April International Care, an April Group company, has been specialising in international health insurance solutions. We design, distribute and manage insurance plans and assistance services for individuals – travellers or expats – and businesses. 

By combining local presence and international expertise, they aim to facilitate our customers’ access to top quality healthcare by providing flexible health insurance products to meet their needs, wherever they are in the world. 

As a business line, April International Care has 130,000 insured members in 180 countries, 20,000 distribution partners, 26 different nationalities of employees and 12 countries of operation. 

Reason for Acquisition  

Regarding why April took over A+, Romain Di Meglio, April’s regional CEO in Asia Pacific said “A+ is a leading Managing General Underwriter (MGU) in the region and delivers outstanding service to its partners and clients. We’re excited about what we will be able to build together for them with the support of the A+ team.” 

Additionally, Jean-Marc Herbert, Owner and CEO of A+ said “As part of APRIL, A+ will have even more great solutions to offer our clients. I am proud of what we have built with them and confident that APRIL is the ideal provider for both our partners and our insured members.” 

Here are some important highlights regarding this acquisition: 

1. Existing A+ benefits and pricing will remain unchanged for the upcoming renewals.  

2. The A+ brand will be progressively phased out and replaced by April. 

3. Contact details will remain unchanged until further notice.  

4. APRIL reinforces its presence in Hong Kong, Vietnam and more generally in Southeast Asia. 

5. APRIL complements its portfolio of offers with a more affordable health insurance products range. 

6. APRIL strengthens its partnership with key providers/insurers in the region. 

How does this acquisition impact A+ members? 

You will benefit from April’s service offering and technologies, including full digital services, local teams available in 6 countries in the region and partnerships with market leaders on TeleHealth and Second Medical Opinion. 

Benefits and pricing 

There are no changes to the benefits and pricing. 

Premium payments 

All payments shall be made to April bank accounts. New bank details will be displayed on each 

new customer’s invoice. 

For renewals, we will continue to handle ongoing credit card authorisations.  

For new business, credit card payments will be made through April’s online system. 

• Policies insured under AXA: The current TPA is MAI, this will remain unchanged until further notice. 

• Policies insured under PCI: The current TPA is PCI, this will remain unchanged until further notice. 

Notice to clients 

A joint notice from the insurer and APRIL will be sent to you within 1 month and a note will be inserted into all renewal letters.
